1. being, having, or suggesting the style, quality, etc., of a fashion designer; very fashionable: the couture look.
How does this work?
I do a couture/custom business. I don't often make "stock" items. The items I make are usually designed or created with a client in mind that has been requested by the client.
First and foremost-
I do not do crochet to get rich. It is not about the money. It is about creating great items for others to enjoy, and to challenge myself. I enjoy it- and if I can make enough money to keep my buying more yarn- all the better!
Delivery Time-
Because I am one person with a day job, I can only work on my items in the evenings and weekends. To be honest, I also need to have a life and get off my sofa- so- my turn around time can be as little as 2 weeks, or as long as 3 months. It depends on the item, yarn availability, and how many projects I have on order.
** One should always assume 1 month for a project- so if a baby is due in 2 weeks, there is a very good chance a blanket will not be done for before the child is born **
Its about personal design-
For example- a woman might want a poncho- but not sure what kind she wants/the design, what would look good. Together we figure it out. Often, she may have an idea, and I may know of a design that she would love and would look good on her, and a decision is made.
Once a piece is decided, color and yarn are the next up for figuring.
Everyone has their favorite color, and we work with budget to get the highest quality yarn, at the best value. If I don’t have it in stock, it has to be ordered (but chances are, I have it in stock!)
Next is pricing- the sordid topic of coin…
Hand made items can be very expensive. Crochet is not something that can be duplicated by machine, as knitting can. So anything you see crocheted, was done, by hand. I charge for production costs, and a small labor fee. If I design the piece especially for the client, there is a fee for the design phase. I keep my items priced WELL within everyday budgets. I prefer to see someone wearing my item, than to have it sitting on a mannequin because it was too expensive.
